WINTER TENNIS ACADEMY – MASTERING THE BASICS
Are you ready to channel your inner Serena? Unleash the Rafa inside of you? Well, it all starts with the basics! This program for beginner players combines effective instruction with fun opportunities for social play.
What is it: 2-hour session with drills & instruction. Session will focus on forehand, backhand and consistent second serves.
Perfect for: Beginners (Men and Women)
Instructor: Local pro Tim Connolly, along with a GLTF assistant
Date & Times: March 2 from 10:00 am to Noon
Cost: $15 for new members (less than 6 months), $20 for current members, $25 for non-GLTF member.
Forehand
It’s the shot you hit the most in tennis. We’ll cover things like how to position yourself for hitting forehands, the best grip to use, basic elements of the swing and more.
Backhand
For some players, the backhand is their Achilles heel. For others, it can be a secret weapon. We’ll work on the basic approach to hitting backhands, discuss the pros and cons of one-handed versus two-handed backhand, and include plenty of hands-on practice.
Second Serves
As you become more comfortable with your basic strokes, we’ll conclude our program with service practice. Specifically, we’ll help you develop a consistent second serve, so you can begin to enjoy active match play.
GLTF’s Tennis Academy is a terrific way to get started in tennis, or return to form after a long hiatus. It’s also an excellent opportunity to meet fellow LGBT and LGBT-friendly players. As always, our top priority is to have fun. Space is limited to 12 players, so sign up soon and get out here.
